To be honest, I’m not sure what initially made me think that I needed a brass hammer in my tool kit. But, like clamps, you can never have too many hammers. Especially specialty hammers…

Officially, this is the Penn State Industries PKBHAM Brass Hammer Woodturning Project Kit, and it was a great little kit that was quick and easy project to complete. All the pieces you needed to complete the hammer were in the kit. Well, the wood wasn’t, but then it wouldn’t be as much fun, would it?

I wanted something strong, and somewhat attractive. Ultimately, I selected a pen blank in Yellow Heart for the handle. And it was a good choice if I may say so myself. I finished the handle Odie’s Oil, to give it a good shine and help protect the wood some. I’m looking forward to seeing how that finish holds up.
