This bowl is made from aged Bradford Pear that was sourced from a fallen branch here in North Texas. My main goal was to keep some of the bark on, and I was able to achieve that on two sides. The larger bark inclusion did have a piece break off during the creation process.
Both the interior and exterior have some tear out and “sanding stripes.” The attached bark still has some of the lichens on it. Combined with the cracks that formed while turning, the piece has a very rustic feel. I’ve coated it all in Danish oil to help stabilize it and some parts soaked in more than others (I may add more to it to help even out the shine). It’s more of a decoration piece than a snack bowl.
The bowl is 7 1/2 inches in diameter and 2 inches high.
