Would you believe that someone thought this was firewood?

Salvaged from a wood pile here in McKinney, Texas, this piece of cherry laurel has some incredible pattern to the grain. The piece was from the main trunk, and had multiple branch inclusions on it. I was able to keep four of those inclusions intact on the piece, including one that still shows the original wood texture around it.

As it was slightly “punky” due to some of the spalting, the deeper inside is rougher than the outside.

The shape of this twig vase was inspired by the vintage glass bud vases by Bartlett-Collins. I’d like to think that I captured the essence of them in this design. It was finished with teak oil, ensuring a soft shine for years to come.
