This live edge bowl is made from a local piece of ash that was torn down to widen a road. It was one of my first serious attempts at a live edge and not turning away some of the texture of the wood. It’s a thicker, square-sided bowl as I was still getting comfortable with thinner, curved walls. It’s definitely an art bowl, and I’d recommend displaying it on a higher shelf as opposed to putting it on the table with some M&M’s.
Looking at it now I see so many flaws, like a rough center of the bowl, and tear out on the rim, poorly finished bottom, and most of all, too heavy of a hand when adding the sanding sealer so it cracked and lifted on the bottom. The last few pictures show some of the whiteness of excess sanding sealer.
