This small bowl is made from a local piece of crepe myrtle (just a few doors down to be exact). The grain is wonderful and wavy, and gives a bit of chatoyance to the piece. I’ve left one small tear out on the rim which shows more of the grain’s waviness.
There are two small sections where the open grain picked up an excess of the polishing compound. It adds an interesting dullish effect in contrast to the shininess of the rest of the pieces. The small cracks have been stabilized and will not spread.
