This is a larger “nut bowl” made out of a spalted wood which was cut down due to a road expansion. Initial thoughts were that this was an ash, which is why the bottom is marked as such, but further examination of other items from the same wood make it appear to possibly be pecan. Whatever the wood type, the spalting is pretty, and has been accentuated by the addition of a stain and sealer combo.
The bowl is cross-grain and has a small knot hole in the side. It is made with a slightly thicker wall to try and add extra support while drying as it was turned while still damp.
